                                                                            L.A.U.S.D Bomb Threat

On December 15, 2015 there was a bomb threat on L.A.U.S.D schools. I got into my carpool car thinking it was a normal day, but as soon as I got into the car I heard the these words from my friend Isabella, were going to die today! The bomb threat was directed to the superintendent, Ramon Cortines. This threat was also directed to New York, but they didn’t care. In Los Angeles, 640,000 kids stayed at home, and all L.A.U.S.D. schools were closed. For many students, this week was finals week, the threat could have been a student trying to get out of a test. The threat included, “explosive devices”,”assault rifles”, and “machine pistols”. For me the day included fear, for most of the day my stomach was tied in a nought. My theory for the day was that if all L.A.U.S.D. schools were closed and some private schools, then they would have to bomb a private school that was still open. During P.E. that day all of the girls were riled up because we saw people in white shirts in the hills, we thought they were the bombers. At the end of the day nothing happened, the threat was fake.

How Do I Serve, Lead, and Flourish?

I go to St. Matthew's Parish School where their motto is "Serve, Lead, Flourish". Over this past year I have learned to do all of these things.  I serve by helping others, on a school retreat I went to OPCC to help feed the homeless and then we went to the Westside Food Bank and helped them sort food to send off to other people who don't have enough money to buy food. Over the summer I also worked at the St. Matthew's thrift shop, and helped work to cash register. I lead myself to a great life filled with wonders, I have a great family, great friends, and pretty outstanding grades. I led my life to this position I am in now, and this I realized because of St. Mathew's. Finally I flourish because this new school has set me on a journey to flourish in a new environment, to find new friends, to meet new teachers, and to adapt to my new surroundings. St. Matthew's Parish School's purpose is "to affirm that we are all children of God and to nurture intellectual, creative, spiritual and ethical individuals who serve, lead, and flourish in an ever-changing world" after just one year I have figured out the meaning of this sentence because of St. Matthew's.

My neighborhood

Brentwood is always thriving with loud noises and people. The construction and traffic never stops, but the neighborhood is marvelous. My street is filled with wonderful neighbors and houses. There are stores, restaurants, many schools, parks, and more.

My street is north of Sunset Blvd; hence, the fact that mornings are a little noisy when people go to work and school. Whenever St. Martin of Tours has a basketball game, we can hear people shouting. But inside my house nothing can be heard. I also live next to the schools: Archer,University Synagogue, and Brentwood Lower School. But I decided to drive 20 minutes to go to school everyday to St. Matthews. The noise outside is a price to pay for living next to many schools, but it doesn't bother me that much.

I live in a very convenient area because I am walking distance from many stores and restaurants. I live near Lemonade,Starbucks, Belwood Bakery, a pharmacy, Maria's Pizza, different clothing stores, Pet Joy, a dog park, a kids park, and some nail places. This comes in handy when I walk my dog and I get hungry or when I go out to dinner with family. This is also a great hangout place with my friends.

My street, Saltair, has many houses and no apartments. I have a two-story house with a swimming pool, so we have many BBQ parties. My house also has two guest bedrooms and a room for my parents, sister, and me. My house used to belong to my grandma and grandpa, so it is a little old fashioned. My street is very safe, but we have to watch out for cars around 3:00 pm because everyone gets off from school. There are a couple of kids living around my house, such as my friend Abigail. Tourists also come by my house to take pictures of the house used for the show Golden Girls. My neighborhood is a great place to see some tourist attractions,to go shopping, and it's a great place to grab a bite to eat.

All in all, my neighborhood is a great place to be. My house is accessible for my friends because it is centrally located. We are only five minutes to the 405 freeway which can take us anywhere for a weekend away. From the noise to my street and the stores, we have chosen a pretty incredible place to live.
